As we move into a new year which is destined to bring with it more challenges, we also have hope that some good news may be on the horizon.  The IL FOP Labor Council and IL FOP State Lodge have both been working to get Illinois Retired Officer Concealed Carry (IROCC) rights for all our members who have met the requirements per Federal Statute H.R. 218 yet have been turned away based on interpretations within our state.  While it is a personal choice for each individual whether to carry or not, after a career in law enforcement, it is our belief that you have earned the right to lawfully carry a weapon as you have done throughout your career.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) has been granted the authority to administer the IROCC Program and the issuance of permits.  We were made aware that several members once retired were being denied their rights for various reasons.  The denial has lead to individual lawsuits in attempt to rectify the situation.

On December 8, 2015, Cook County Sheriff Dart, along with Cook County Commissioner Daley and fifteen Illinois State Representatives and Senators drafted a letter to the governing body ILETSB.  The letter urged the ILETSB to modify the Illinois Administrative Code as it relates to IROCC.  A copy of that letter and the recommended changes to the Code are attached for your reading.  Also attached is a copy of a letter which was sent to Sheriff Dart, Commissioner Daley, and each individual Representative and Senator on behalf of our members both current and retired thanking them for their support on this issue.

The IL FOP Labor Council and IL FOP State Lodge will continue to do all we can to protect the rights of our members.  As new information becomes available, we will keep you posted.
