Once again, the Village of Skokie refused to reach a voluntary settlement and the Union filed for interest arbitration.

The Union accepted the Village's final offer on wages; retroactive pay increases of 2.25%, 2.5% and 2.5%.  The Union had proposed slightly smaller increases if the arbitrator would award the union some language changes on a mid-term re-opener.  The Arbitrator did not grant the changes, so the Union accepted the Village's larger wage increase.

The Union won the issue of health insurance, agreeing to a small increase in employee health insurance contributions on the condition that the same increase be implemented upon the non-union employees by a date certain.  The Village sought an unconditional increase.

The members also achieved a small increase in uniform allowance and an improvement to the grievance procedure.  The new contract in Skokie will cover 5/1/2012 through 4/30/2015. Bargaining Team Members Mike Cremins, Dale Anderson and John Kilcullen were assisted in negotiations and interest arbitration by Labor Council Attorney Gary Bailey.
