The Bargaining Team once again attempted to negotiate a contract with St. Clair County however, as has become the practice, went to Interest Arbitration to settle their Agreement.

The team had agreed to many minor clerical changes to their Agreement, but faced many take-away attempts by the Employer trying to gut their pay plan and proposing a 0% wage increase in the first year.  The Interest Arbitration awarded the bargaining unit with the Union's final wage offer and will receive 2% retro to January 1, 2012, 2.25% retro to January 2013 and 2.5% retro to January 1, 2014.  This will bring top pay for a corrections officer at the term of the Agreement to $59,900.  Also for the first time, corrections officers will have their choice for pursuing discipline.  They will have the option of either through the merit commission or the grievance procedure.

The Bargaining Team of Howard Kurtz, Don Humphrey and Eric Browder did an excellent job on behalf of their membership.  Labor Council Field Representative Jerry Lieb assisted during negotiatons and Staff Attorney James Daniels prepared and presented the case in Interest Arbitration.
